NTL TRACK & FIELD: WELLSBORO GIRLS SWEEP TRI-MEET, BOYS GO 1-1 (2024-04-09)

TOWANDA — The Wellsboro girls Track & Field team swept Troy and the host Lady Knights at a tri-meet here Tuesday, while the boys squad went 1-1 on the day.

The girls scored 60.5 points to outdistance both Troy (46) and Towanda (32.5). 

Junior Annika Gehman won three events .. the high jump (5-0), the long jump (15-03) and the triple (32-11.50) .. while freshman Lauren Kosek won both the 1600 meter run (6:01.70) and the 3200 (11:25.32). 

The Lady Hornets swept the 100 meter dash, with freshman Piper Hoprich taking 1st (12.93) followed by sophomore Sophia Yoder in 2nd (13.89), sophomore Jordan Rumsey in 3rd (14.09) and senior Emily Richardson in 4th (14.14). 

Senior Grace Harlan won the shot put (28-09.00) while senior Hannah Gilmour won the discus (75-07) and was 2nd in the shot (26-09.00). Junior Christina Logsdon won the javelin (98-06) and was 2nd in the discus (74-02).

Freshman Megan Newruck was 2nd in the triple jump (28-00.50) and 4th in the 800 meter run (3:24.93) while classmate Ella Boyce was 2nd in the long jump (12-09.00) and 3rd in the high jump (4-06). Senior Sarah Seeling was 2nd in the 110 hurdles (18.87) and 3rd in the 100 hurdles (52.68), while senior Maddie Mascho was 2nd in the 200 meter dash (31.51) and 4th in the 400 (1:13.34), freshman Ava Magli was 3rd in the 200 and senior Madison Robbins was 4th in the 1600 meter run (6:33.36). 

On the boys side, Wellsboro scored 51 points to fall to Troy (93) and top the host Black Knights (23).

Junior Micah Vickery won both the 110 meter hurdles (17.28) and the 300 hurdles (45.75) while senior Noah Morey won both the discus (122-06) and the javelin (151-02). Other event winners were: sophomore Jonathan Carl in the 400 meter dash (53.51), sophomore Max Macias in the 3200 (11:16.71) and junior Gabriel Carpenter in pole vault (9-06.00). 

Vickery tied for 2nd in the high jump with sophomore David Seeling (5-08.00) while Seeling was also 2nd in the 300 hurdles (46.37) and 3rd in the 110 hurdles (18.87). Macias placed 2nd in the 1600 (5:05.80) and 4th in the 800 (2:25.07), senior Watson Feil was 2nd in the javelin (141-08) and 3rd in the shot put (36-03.00), junior Micaiah Fitch placed 2nd in the triple jump (35-06.50) and 4th in the long jump (16-11.00) and Carl placed 3rd in the triple jump (35-02.00) and 4th in the 100 meter dash (12.04).

Both the girls and boys teams are scheduled to compete at the Molly Dry Invitational on Thursday at Mansfield University.
