HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: WELLSBORO EARNS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON IN THIRD TRY (2024-04-15)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
COUDERSPORT, PA — In just their third time seeing action this season and their second completed game, Wellsboro earned their first win, topping non-league Coudersport 12-4.

The Hornets scattered nine base hits across seven innings and drew five walks and had two batters get struck by a pitch. They’d take an early, 3-0 lead after the first inning and rallied for a four-run third and added two more runs in the fourth.

Coudersport scored two runs in the fifth and their final two in the bottom of the seventh, but not before Wellsboro scored their final three runs in the top of the seventh.

Gabe Sprouse earned the win for the Hornets, going five innings and allowing two unearned runs on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Drayden McGee relieved Sprouse and threw an inning and a third, giving up one earned run on a hit and two walks with two K’s. Alec Magli pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and allowed an earned run on a base hit and a walk.

Sprouse helped himself at the plate and collected a pair of base hits, two RBI and three runs scored, while Alec Magli and Marek Mascho each had two hits and two RBI and Mascho scored two runs and Magli scored once.

Ryder Bowen had a base hit and two RBI, Caden Smith had a hit and scored three runs, Lucas Cuneo had a base hit and Max Mascho had two RBI and scored a run.

The Hornets (1-1) had their previous game, at Wyalusing, suspended due to weather and will make it up when they play the Rams on May 3rd. They’re scheduled to host Cowanesque Valley (3-4) on Tuesday.
