HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: HORNETS' OFFENSE EXPLODES FOR 30 RUNS IN WIN OVER COUDERSPORT (2024-04-15)

COUDERSPORT, PA — Wellsboro was outhit in their game with the Lady Falcons here Monday but the Hornets drew 22 walks and had a 14-run inning as they routed Coudersport 30-9 in four innings of play. 

Wellsboro scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second, while giving up a pair of runs to Coudersport in the first and five in the second frame to tie the game at seven. A nine-run third inning and a 14-run fourth let Wellsboro pull away for the lopsided win. 

Freshman Mazie Johnson got the start for Wellsboro and earned the win, going three innings and allowing nine runs (7 earned) on nine base hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Classmate Lauren Kosek threw the final inning with no hits, runs or walks while striking out two.

The Lady Hornets had eight base hits .. two each by Paige Logsdon, Tegan Del Rio and Arianah Lawton .. and one each from Abby Owlett and Caralyn Warner.

Logsdon had five RBI and scored five runs in the rout, while Lawton had four RBI and scored three runs, Owlett had two RBI and four runs, Warner had two RBI and scored three runs and Del Rio had an RBI and scored three times. 

LeAnna Fuentas, Kieleigh Hoover, Bailee Confer, Harleigh Cleveland and Kosek each had an RBI while Fuentas scored three runs, Confer, Madelynn Losinger and Johnson each scored two runs and Hoover, Cleveland and Kosek each scored once. 

The Hornets even their season record at 2-2 with the win. They’re scheduled to host Cowanesque Valley on Tuesday.
