HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON DROPS NON-LEAGUE MATCH-UP WITH CORNING (2024-04-17)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
CORNING, NY — Williamson traveled across the border Tuesday to take on NY State power Corning-Painted Post and came home with a non-league loss as the Lady Hawks cruised to an 11-5 win over the Warriors.

Corning built a 5-0 lead after three innings, scoring two runs in the first, a run in the second and two more in the third. Williamson would get on the board in the fourth inning when Kenna Thomas singled and Mckenna Buchanan reached base on an error that scored Thomas.

Corning answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth but Williamson rallied in the fifth to score four runs. Bailee Smith (HBP), Olivia Gee (bunt single), Lexi Smalley (BB) and Kenna Thomas (2B) all scored in the frame to cut Corning’s lead to 8-5, but three more runs in the bottom of the fifth by the Hawks would provide the final.

Thomas took the loss for Williamson, going all six innings and allowing 11 runs (4 earned) on nine hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. At the plate, the sophomore had two base hits, with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Gee had the Warriors’ remaining base hit and she, Smalley and Smith scored runs.

Now 1-7 on the season, Williamson is scheduled to return to action on Saturday at home (Elkland) against Northern Potter at 11 a.m.
