Troy came in averaging over 12 runs per game, but Mackenzi Tice threw a gem for Liberty and went all seven innings while giving up three hits with a pair of walks and nine strikeouts to shut out the Lady Trojans. 

The Mounties jumped on Troy early and went up 3-0 in the first inning as Saige Lehman, Addie Smith and Payton Chapel had base hits while Megan Spohn walked and Mckenna Lightner reached base on a Troy error .. the first of three Trojan miscues in the game. 

After a scoreless second inning .. Tice struck out the first five Troy batters she faced and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth .. Lehman walked to lead off the bottom of the third and Haley Litzelman cleared the bases with a bomb of a home run to give the Mounties their comfortable, 5-0 lead. 

The Trojans led off with a pair of singles to threaten in their final at-bat and had runners in scoring position for the first time in the game, but catcher Lehman threw out Troy’s Kali Ayres stealing third, making the next batters’ deep fly ball to centerfielder Litzelman insignificant. Tice would close out the game, getting Troy to ground out to Smith at second base to seal the win. 

The Lady Mounties had seven base hits on the day and drew a pair of walks. Nikki Kiscadden and Chapel had a pair of hits each, with Kiscadden adding a triple and Chapel driving in a run. Litzelman drove in two runs with her homer and scored a run, while Smith had a hit and an RBI, Lehman had a hit and scored twice and Spohn and Lightner each scored a run in the win.

North Penn-Liberty, now 9-0 on the season, is scheduled to return to action on Friday when they host Wyalusing (3-4).
