HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: HORNETS END SKID WITH ROUT OF NEUMANN (2024-04-27)

WILLIAMSPORT — The Wellsboro softball team ended a six-game losing streak by beating St. John Neumann 22-4 in three innings on Saturday in non-league play.

Senior Abby Owlett drew a lead-off walk then later scored on a wild pitch to put the Lady Hornets up 1-0 early. Neumann answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to take their only lead of the game.

Wellsboro batted through their lineup twice in the second inning and scored 15 runs to retake the lead at 16-2. Neumann got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, but Wellsboro added six more runs to end the game early, highlighted by a home run from senior Caralyn Warner.

Freshman Mazie Johnson had three base hits, four RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lady Hornets at the plate. Warner finished with two hits, six RBI and three runs scored. 

Junior Paige Logsdon had a triple, two RBI and scored twice, while Tegan Del Rio had a hit, an RBI and scored twice, Ariana Layton had two RBI and scored three runs, Abby Owlett scored three runs and Bailee Confer, LeAnna Fuentes and Madelynn Losinger each scored twice.

Johnson threw three innings, allowing four runs (3 earned) on two base hits and seven walks with four strikeouts. 

The win improves the Lady Hornets to 3-8 (1-8 NTL Large School Division). The team is scheduled to be back in action on Monday at Towanda.
