ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: SPRING, WEEK 4 (2022-04-17)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Presenting our Athletes of the Week in girls’ and boys’ track and field, baseball, softball and boys’ tennis for the week of April 11th-16th.

GIRLS’ TRACK & FIELD
Annika Gehman, Wellsboro
In a tri-meet with Williamson and Athens earlier in the week, Gehman placed first in the high jump (4-08), second in the triple jump (30-11) and third in the long jump (14-04), as well as being a part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team. At the Molly Dry Invitational, the freshman finished tied for third in the high jump (4-06) and eighth in the long jump (14-02.25).

BOYS’ TRACK & FIELD
Owen Cummings, Williamson
Cummings helped the boys’ team win the Molly Dry Invitational Championship by taking first in the 1600 meter run, third in the 800 and eighth in the 3200 meter. 

SOFTBALL
Ruby Sherman, Cowanesque Valley
Sherman led CV to a 3-0 week. In a 12-0 win over Williamson, Sherman had three hits, scored two runs and threw a complete game, two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts. In the Lady Indians’ 14-5 win over Troy, the sophomore had a pair of hits and an RBI, and in a 16-1 win over Sayre, Sherman had two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.

BASEBALL
Alex Davis, North Penn-Mansfield
In the Tigers’ 16-6 win over Williamson, Davis hit a grand slam, had a double, four RBI and three runs scored. In a 14-8 win over Troy, the freshman had a double, two RBI and scored twice, and in a 7-6 loss to Athens, Davis had a pair of hits, including a double, Two RBI and a run scored.

BOYS’ TENNIS
Drew Manning, Wellsboro
In the Hornets’ 3-2 win over Galeton, Manning combined with Aiden Gehman to win their No. 1 doubles match, and in a 3-2 loss to South Williamsport, Manning and Connor Pierce won their No. 2 doubles match.
