ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: SPRING, WEEK 7 (2022-05-08)

TIOGA COUNTY — The Northern Tier West Sports Report is proud to announce our Athletes of the Week in boys’ and girls’ track, softball and baseball. Our local tennis teams were off this past week, as they prepare for the post-season.

BOYS’ TRACK & FIELD
Mason Kelsey, Williamson
Kelsey was a distance event away from completing his own personal pentathlon at the Coudersport Invitational .. placing 2nd as a member of the Warriors’ 4x100 meter relay team, 4th in the 200 meter dash, 5th in the javelin and 6th in the long jump, helping Williamson to a team championship.

GIRLS’ TRACK & FIELD
Chelsea Hungerford, Williamson
Hungerford won a pair of titles at Coudersport, placing 1st in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles, leading the Lady Warriors to an area-best 7th place finish.

SOFTBALL
Mackenzie Tice, North Penn-Liberty
Tice led the Lady Mounties to a 2-0 week. In their 11-0 win over Towanda, the sophomore had four hits, an RBI and two runs scored, and threw three innings in relief, allowing no runs on three hits and no walks, with six strikeouts. Tice then threw a complete game shutout against Troy, going all seven innings and allowing just two hits with one walk and three K’s. At the plate, she had a hit, two RBI and scored a run.

BASEBALL
Caden Smith, Wellsboro
The Hornets picked up two large school wins this week, topping Towanda 17-5 and beating Athens 11-4. Against Towanda, Smith had a pair of base hits, knocked in two runs and scored three times. He followed that up by collecting three hits .. including a double .. an RBI and a run scored in the win against Athens.
