DISTRICT IV VOLLEYBALL: LADY WARRIORS TO TAKE ON WYALUSING IN AA SEMIS (2022-10-31)

ATHENS — The Williamson Lady Warriors volleyball team will take on defending District IV champ Wyalusing in the semifinals of the Class AA playoffs at Athens High School Tuesday.

Williamson entered the playoffs as the No. 3 seed and rolled over No. 6-seed Wellsboro in the quarterfinals Saturday. Wyalusing finished the regular season 15-5 and secured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the District IV tournament. 

The teams played each other twice this season, with Wyalusing winning each match 3-1.

In the season opener, Wyalusing took the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-17, before the Lady Warriors rallied to win set three 25-15. The Rams secured the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.

On October 11th, Wyalusing again won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-17, before Williamson took the third 26-24 and the Rams won the fourth set 25-23.

TaylorRae Jones had nine kills in each of the match-ups for Williamson, and Gracie Stephens had 24 and 23 assists. Mikenna Buchanan had nine kills in the two matches and Jocilyn Strange had seven kills and eight blocks.

The winner of Tuesday’s 5:00 p.m. match will advance to the finals of the Class AA tournament. Tuesday’s other semifinal features top-seeded North Penn-Liberty and No. 4-seed Athens.
