NTL TRACK AND FIELD: WILLIAMSON EXCITED TO HAVE MIX OF EXPERIENCE AND YOUTH (2021-03-17)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
WESTFIELD — The Williamson boys and girls track and field teams started practice last week under the tutelage of head coach Aaron Wooster.

It appears that the team will have around 55 varsity members this year, which is slightly down from past seasons. Coach Wooster likes the mixture of experienced athletes and newcomers that make up the team.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what some of our seniors can accomplish,” Wooster says, “and it’s exciting to think about how some of our younger, newer athletes can make names for themselves in that climate.”

Wooster points to a half dozen junior and senior athletes as among those that the coaches are excited to watch.

Seniors include: Two-time state qualifier Charly Slusser (jumps and sprints), Seth Neal (distance) and T.J. Madison (jumps). Neal, who set a new 5K school record during cross country season, is looking to set new school records in the 1600m and 3200m.

The juniors are Elliott Good (sprints and jumps), Chelsea Hungerford (sprints and hurdles) and Scout Abel (sprints).

As for newcomers that the coaching staff expects to progress nicely throughout the season, Wooster points to Kyra Daley, Mason Kelsey, Duncan Kerr, Adelaide Schmitt and Nathaniel Welch.

Williamson is scheduled to open their season on April 6 at Canton.
