HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TENNIS: POIRIER AND SINGER HIGHLIGHT ALL-TIOGA COUNTY TEAM (2021-07-27)

Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
The Wellsboro boys tennis team swept through the NTL this season, going undefeated in league play, and #1 singles player Will Poirier combined with #2 Zach Singer to win a District doubles championship, earning the duo the title of All-Tioga County Boys Tennis Co-Players of the Year.

Poirier (13-3) and Singer (14-2) went 27-5 playing in the top-two spots for the Hornets, and combined to go 6-0 in doubles. After being beat out of the District IV team championships, the pair focused on the District doubles tournament, winning Wellsboro’s first title since 2011 and earning a PIAA tournament berth.

Teammate Joseph Doty joins Singer and Poirier on the All-West Team, going 12-1 for the Hornets while playing in the #3 singles spot.

Cowanesque Valley’s Arch Ackley and North Penn-Liberty’s River Hicks-Lee round out the All-West team. Each played in the #1 singles spot for their team, with Ackley going 2-4 for the Indians and Hicks-Lee 2-8 for the Mounties, facing every other team’s top players.

Poirier and Singer’s District IV championship and state-tourney appearance makes them a lock for the All-West doubles list.

Joining them are Hornet teammates Owen Richardson and Dustin Benedict, who compiled a 9-4 record while playing in the #1 doubles spot for Wellsboro during the regular season.
