HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: WILLIAMSON'S SOTTOLANO, WILSON REACH DISTRICT SEMIS (2025-02-21)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — Williamson’s Luke Sottolano and Zander Wilson each advanced to the semifinals of the District IV 2A Championships while the Warriors’ four remaining wrestlers will compete in Saturday morning’s elimination round after suffering losses Friday night.
Wilson (36-0), a freshman, had a bye into the 107 pound quarterfinals and took just 3:01 to tech fall Hughesville freshman Ethan Wodrig, 17-2. He’ll face Montgomery junior Manny Stoltzfus (41-5) in the semis.
Sottolano (34-7), a junior 285 pounder, won his pigtail match with a 38 second fall over Montgomery sophomore Ethan Hugar, then topped the South Section champ from Southern Columbia, freshman Braylin Smith (26-7), 4-0. He’ll wrestle Montoursville senior Landon Morehart (35-7) in the semifinals.
Senior 189 pounder Tim Freeman (25-17) won his preliminary round match, edging Mifflinburg’s Landon Moser (21-20) 11-10 before falling 17-2 to No. 2 seed Coy Bryson (24-6) from Central Columbia. Freeman will face Central Columbia senior Josh Worthington (23-7) in the first round of consolations.
Junior Hunter Simonds (30-9) had a bye into the 121 pound quarterfinals where he lost by technical fall to Muncy junior Gage Swank (23-7). He’ll face Montgomery junior Porter Hall (25-18).
Junior 127 pounder Noah Robinson (14-6) lost by a 26-9 tech fall in the first round and faces North Penn-Liberty senior Brayden Pequignot in Saturday’s blood round.
Junior Ben Freeman (29-9) was pinned in 4:21 in his first-round match and will take on Hughesville senior Luke Stutzman (30-16) in the 215 pound consolation bracket first round.
Wilson and Sottolano are guaranteed a top-6 finish and will qualify for next week’s Regional Championships.
The first round of consolations will start at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by the semifinals, the consolation quarterfinals and the consolation semis.
At 4:30 p.m., the 7th/8th place matches start, followed by the 5th/6th place bouts, the 3rd/4th place matches and at 7:00 p.m., the championship finals.
