HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: NP-LIBERTY EARNS NON-LEAGUE WIN OVER HUGHESVILLE (2025-05-08)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Liberty let Hughesville get back in their game here Thursday, but the Lady Mounties scored five unanswered runs to pull away from the visiting Spartans for a 9-3 win.
Liberty took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Maddie Smith singled and Addie Smith drove her in, and the Mounties plated two more runs in the second as Elaina Shaw walked, Kaylee Graham doubled her in and Graham scored on a Hughesville error off Claire Dominick’s bat to give the Mounties a 3-0 lead.
In the third inning, Addie Smith reached base on an error and was later driven home with a Graham double to give NPL a 4-0 lead. The Lady Spartans got back in the game with a three-run fourth inning, but Liberty used a Maddie McNamara single and Maddie Smith double to extend their lead to 5-3 after four innings.
The Mounties put together a big fifth inning as Shaw, Dominick and Haley Litzelman all doubled and Kameron Lightner and McNamara singled to extend Liberty’s lead to 9-3.
Elyna Booth kept Hughesville in check and went all seven innings in the circle to earn the win, allowing three runs (2 earned) on six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.
Maddie Smith (2b, 1 rbi, 1 run), Graham (2b, 2 rbi, 1 run) and McNamara (2 runs) each had two hits while Litzelman (2b, 2 rbi), Addie Smith (1 rbi, 1 run), Shaw (2b, 2 runs), Dominick (2b, 1 rbi, 1 run) and Lightner (1 rbi, 1 run) had a hit each.
The Mounties (11-3) are scheduled to return to play Monday at home against Northeast Bradford.
