Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportMANSFIELD — Cowanesque Valley and North Penn-Mansfield finished off their suspended extra-inning game from over a month ago here Saturday and it would be the Indians closing out the marathon in the 13th inning of play and earning a 12-11 win over the host Tigers.
Back on April 3rd, CV had jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the fourth inning before the Tigers clawed back into the game and tied it up at 11-all in the bottom of the seventh. The teams played a scoreless eighth and the game was suspended due to darkness.
In the original eight innings of play the teams combined for 27 base hits .. six for extra bases, including three home runs .. but during Saturday’s five innings Mansfield added two singles while the Indians had four base hits.
In the top of the 13th, CV got a leadoff single from William Kies, but Mansfield turned the hit into an out by throwing Kies out trying to stretch it into a double. After a CV ground out, Dave Hess doubled. Ayren Morgan kept the two-out rally going by reaching base after being hit by a pitch while Hess stole third.
Lucas Hamilton delivered the eventual game winner, driving Hess in with a single to put the Indians up 12-11.
Hess earned the win for CV as he relieved Morgan in the 12th inning with one out and Mansfield base runners at first and second. After getting out of the jam, Hess gave way to Levi Stahli, who induced a fly-out to start the 13th, gave up a single to Jason Harer and then sealed the CV win with two strikeouts to end the game.
Hamilton finished with six base hits in seven at-bats, including a double, and added three RBI and two runs scored, while Morgan went 4-for-6 with two RBI and four runs scored and Loagan Stickler had three hits, with a home run, and added three RBI and scored three runs.
