NTL BASEBALL: CV COMEBACK STOPPED SHORT BY BLACK KNIGHTS (2025-05-12)
Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportTOWANDA — Cowanesque Valley rallied from four runs down in the seventh inning to pull to within one of the host Black Knights, but the comeback would fall short as the Indians lost, 5-4.
Towanda took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added a pair of runs in the second inning for a 3-0 lead that stood until the top of the fourth frame when Loagan Stickler walked for CV, stole second, was moved to third on a Levi Stahli groundout and stole home to make it 3-1, Towanda.
The Black Knights scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and led 5-1 after six full innings of play.
Gavin Churchill and William Kies each walked to lead off the top of the seventh and Hunter Simonds drove Churchill in with a single to make it 5-2. After Brody Bruce was hit by a pitch, Ayren Morgan hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Kies.
Towanda got a strikeout for the first out of the inning, and Stickler followed with a fielder’s choice that scored Simond but got Bruce thrown out at third.
The Knights got a CV groundout to snuff out the comeback and seal the 5-4 win.
Simonds (1 run) and Morgan (1 rbi) each had two hits for the Indians, while Stickler (1 rbi, 1 run) and Churchill (1 run) had one hit each and Kies scored a run.
Danny Smith started on the mound and went two innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits and four walks with one strikeout. Lucas Hamilton was tagged with the loss after living Smith and throwing four innings while giving up two earned runs on two hits and a walk.
With just their third loss, CV drops to 13-3 on the season. They’re scheduled to host Troy on Wednesday.
