NTL SOFTBALL: BIG THIRD INNING THE DIFFERENCE IN WILLIAMSON WIN OVER WELLSBORO (2025-05-12)

WELLSBORO — Williamson broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the third inning then held the host Lady Hornets off to earn a 9-4 win in NTL softball action here Monday.

In the top of the third, the Lady Warriors got singles from Alexis Sprague and Kaegan Short, a walk by Lexi Smalley, a sac bunt by Olivia Gee and Kenna Thomas was hit by a pitch. Sprague, Smalley and Short all scored on passed balls while Thomas and Gee scored on wild pitches and Williamson led 5-0.

Wellsboro got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fourth when Paige Logsdon singled and Teagan Novinger went yard to make it a 5-2 Williamson lead. 

Williamson added a run in the fifth when Savanna Dean walked and was sacrificed home by Aubree Roe and plated their final three runs in the sixth as Smalley, Gee and Dean all singled, Short doubled and Joelie Stephens and Laila Hackett drew walks. 

The Hornets scored two runs in their final at-bat to provide the 9-4 final.

Gee earned the win in the circle for Williamson, throwing seven innings and allowing four runs (2 earned) on five hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. 

Ady Frantz pitched all seven innings for Wellsboro to get tagged with the loss, giving up nine earned runs on seven hits and eight walks with 13 strikeouts. 

Short (2b, 1 rbi, 2 runs) and Gee (1 rbi, 2 runs) each had two base hits while Smalley (2 runs, 2 bb), Dean (1 run) and Sprague (1 run) had one hit each. Hackett and Roe each had an RBI and Thomas scored a run. 

For Wellsboro, Frantz 1 rbi) had three hits, Novinger (HR, 2 rbi, 1 run) had two and Logsdon (1 run) and Rylee Coolidge (1 rbi) had a hit each. 

Wellsboro falls to 5-11 on the season with the loss. They’re scheduled to return to action Tuesday at Athens. 

Williamson, now 9-7 on the season, is scheduled to next play North Penn-Liberty, at home on Wednesday.
