NTL SOFTBALL: WILLIAMSON READY TO HIT THE FIELD (2021-03-22)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
LAWRENCEVILLE — The Williamson Lady Warriors were a young softball team two seasons ago and their record showed it, as they won two games with a roster made up of mostly sophomores.

Last season would have provided much-needed experience for a roster which would have had only one senior, but it was of course lost to Covid.

This season, Williamson head coach Todd Colegrove has realistic expectations for a team that still lacks the playing experience that should come with a roster dotted with seniors.

“With a down year two years ago and not playing last year, we are looking to get back on track and play as much as possible,” Colegrove explains.

The core group of seniors include Skylar Smith (SS/P), Letiesha Peterson (3B), Maddie Cody (1B/OF) and Kara Shieve (P/SS/2B).

Colegrove points to a trio of newcomers - Mikenna Buchanan, Grace Stephens and Peyton Blend - that will play big roles this season as the Warriors try to build and sustain a successful program.

“We’ll be looking to get some experience for the younger girls,” Colegrove says, “and give these seniors as close to a normal year as we can.”

Williamson will open their season on Friday when they host NP-Mansfield.
