SAYRE — A second-straight 20-point effort by Liam Manning and 18 points from Peyton McClure helped Wellsboro outlast Sayre and pick up their fifth win in a row, downing the Redskins 62-56 in NTL boys’ crossover action Friday.

Manning took care of the paint throughout the game, scoring inside evenly across the four quarters with four first-quarter points, five in the second, six in the third and five in the final frame, while McClure did his damage from the outside, hitting four threes.

The Hornets held a slim, one-point lead after the first quarter, as Sayre’s Dom Fabbri accounted for all 12 Redskin points in the frame.

In the second, Conner Adams scored six of his eight total points and Manning added five as Wellsboro again edged the Redskins by one to take a 29-27 lead into the locker rooms.

Two threes from McClure and three buckets from Manning in the third again led to just a one-point advantage as the teams headed to the final frame with the Hornets up three at 44-41.

In the fourth, McClure hit his final three and he and Hayes Cambell each went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to edge Sayre 18-15 in the quarter and help seal the win.

In addition to Manning’s 20 and McClure’s 18, the Hornets got eight points each from Adams and Darryn Callahan, while Campbell finished with seven points. Cameron Brought added one point.

Wellsboro improves to 10-2 on the season with the win. They are scheduled to host Northeast Bradford on Tuesday.
