Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — Our area boys Track & Field teams enjoyed varying levels of success this past season, highlighted by the Williamson boys winning an NTL title and their 4x800 team bringing home a silver medal from the State championships, making the four members of the relay a lock to be our All-Tioga County Male Track Athlete(s) of the Year.
All-Tioga County Male Track Athlete(s) of the Year
4x800 Relay Team, Williamson .. Kristian Mizdail, Owen Cummings, Nathaniel Welch, Duncan Kerr
Once the ‘Mile Mafia’ decided to start running the distance relay, success was immediate. The foursome placed second at the District IV meet, then improved on their own time to place second at the State Meet, bringing a PIAA silver medal back to Williamson.
All-Tioga County Male Field Athlete of the Year
Aiden Gehman, Wellsboro
Gehman decided to compete for the Hornets this season for the first time, as a junior, and all the rookie jumper did was record leaps of over 40 feet in the triple jump and 20 feet in the long jump in just his second meet ever, at the Lock Haven Invite. Gehman set a PR of 42-03.75 in the triple jump at Lock Haven, placed 2nd at the NTL Championships and finished 11th at the District IV meet. His PR of 20-04.75 in the long jump followed a 5th place finish at Lock Haven, a 5th place finish at the NTL meet and just out of the medals at Districts, where he finished 9th. The Hornet also competed in the high jump, where he set a first-year PR of 5-06.
