TOWANDA — The Wellsboro majors baseball team earned a hard-fought, 8-4 win over Towanda here Sunday in the District 15 All-Stars consolation finals, earning themselves a spot in the District championship game.
Wellsboro took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Towanda struck back in the second with four runs for a three-run advantage.
Wellsboro would keep them scoreless the final four innings, though, while slowly chipping into the lead. In the third they scored two runs to cut it to 4-3, then added two more runs in the fourth to go up 5-4.
A run in the fifth made it 6-4, while they put on two more insurance runs in the sixth for the four-run win.
Wellsboro will face Athens, in Athens at 6 p.m., in the finals on Tuesday. Since Athens has yet to lose in the tourney, Wellsboro will have to beat them twice to secure the title.
