Northern Tier West Sports ReportMONTOURSVILLE — North Penn-Liberty struggled to handle Sullivan County’s defensive pressure, was held scoreless in the first quarter and had just five field goals total in a 46-16 loss to the Griffins in the District IV Class A semifinals here Saturday.
Sullivan County forced nearly as many turnovers .. 18 .. as shots allowed .. 22 .. and limited Mountie high-scoring senior Derek Litzelman to just one point in the first half. Then, with a 20-5 halftime lead, the Griffins used a 19-6 third quarter to propel them to a 30-point lead .. and a running clock .. early in the fourth quarter.
Litzelman finished with 10 points .. with three three-pointers .. to lead North Penn-Liberty, while Daniel Sherant had four points and Adynn Wheeland had the final two.
The Mounties, now 13-11 on the season, will look to put the loss behind them quickly, as they still have a chance to qualify for the State Championships.
NPL will take on Galeton .. 80-34 losers to top-seeded Northumberland Christian .. in the Class A consolation game, where the winner earns a berth in the State tournament.
