Northern Tier West Sports ReportATHENS — The Wellsboro minors All-Star baseball team ran their post-season record to 6-0 as they claimed the PA District 15 Championship here Monday with a 7-6 win over RTL.
Wellsboro led by as much as 4-1 after three innings, but RTL cut it to 4-2 after the fourth.
A 3-run top fifth put Wellsboro up 7-2 and it looked like they might run away with it, but RTL came back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to get back in the game.
In the sixth they added a run early, then loaded the bases with two outs. An RTL single appeared to tie up the game, but an RTL runner was out on offensive interference, negating the tying run and ending the game.
As District 15 Champions, Wellsboro will now enter Sectional play, which is being hosted by Athens this season. Wellsboro will play the District 13 champs on Monday, July 17th at 8:00 p.m.
