NTL BOYS SOCCER: DEFENSES SHINE IN WILLIAMSON / WELLSBORO DRAW (2023-10-02)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION — Wellsboro and Williamson played 100 minutes of soccer here Monday and defenses ruled the day as the NTL's top two teams would settle for a 0-0 draw after two scoreless overtime periods.

Wellsboro held a 9-5 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Williamson keeper Loagan Strickler recorded 10 saves while Mitchell Butler had six stops in goal for the Hornets.

For Williamson, who has not allowed more than one goal in a game, it marks the third straight and fifth total shutout of the season and also keeps the Warriors unbeaten at 12-0-1. They’ll visit Troy on Wednesday to take on the Trojans for the second time. They won 5-1 in a mid-September match.

The draw snaps Wellsboro’s five-game win streak, but does serve as the Hornets’ fourth straight shutout. At 9-2-1 they’ll return to action Wednesday when they host North Penn-Liberty.
