VARSITY VOLLEYBALL: HORNETS RALLY TO TOP SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT IN FIVE (2023-10-02)

WELLSBORO — Wellsboro rallied from being down a set twice and won the deciding fifth set to edge South Williamsport 3-2 in non-league volleyball action here Monday night. 

South Williamsport won the first set 28-26 before Wellsboro took the second set 25-20. The Lady Mounties won the third set 25-17 and the Hornets forced the fifth set with a 25-13 fourth-set win. A 15-10 Wellsboro win secured the match.

Lexi Urena recorded 20 kills in the match while Meredith Brownlee added 10 and Blake Eckart had seven. 

Taylor Main had 17 assists while Natalie Cleveland had 22 digs, Brownless had seven and Urena had five. 

Brownlee and Urena had 15 and 14 points and each had four aces. 

The win, Wellsboro’s third straight, lifts the Hornets to an 8-5 record on the season. They’re scheduled to host North Penn-Liberty on Tuesday.
