NTL GIRLS SOCCER: WILLIAMSON LADY WARRIORS TAKE STEP FORWARD IN '23 (2023-11-22)

TIOGA JUNCTION — Junior keeper Ashley Woodring and the Lady Warriors’ depth highlighted a successful 2023 season for the Williamson girls soccer team.

With preseason goals that focused on improving their standing in the league by competing with the top teams that they fell to in 2022, the Warriors and Head Coach Jason Hungerford would finish 13–4-1 overall in the regular season and 7-4-1 in the NTL after winning four league games last season.

The Warriors’ finished fourth in the NTL and their draw came against league-champ Troy while their four regular-season losses were to the Trojans, runner-up Wyalusing, third-place Athens and fifth-place Towanda.

While Williamson came up shy of beating the league’s top teams, they competed hard with each and lost the four matches by a total of six goals. Outside of the NTL, the Warriors went 5-0 by beating Sullivan County, Campbell-Savona (NY), Addison (NY) twice and handed District 4 Class A runner-up Meadowbrook Christian their lone regular season loss.

Woodring and the Warrior defense was phenomenal through the regular season, as Williamson allowed just 16 goals (.89/per), never gave up more than two goals in a match and last season’s All-Tioga County Player of the Year .. Woodring .. had 87 saves and eight clean sheets.

Senior Maddie Millard anchored a solid defense that included classmate Ruby Sherman at midfield, juniors Miriah Buck and Jade Colwell, sophomore Star Ordway and freshman Keana Mann. 

With a deep lineup of talented strikers, the Warriors 51 goals on the season were scored by a dozen different players. Sophomore Zeraya Wilson led the way with 11 goals and added five assists, while junior Ella Churchill and sophomore Maddie Bailey each had seven goals and Churchill added four assists and Bailey had two.

Freshman Maeve Ficks scored six goals and had a pair of assists while senior Kyra Daley had five scores and assisted on eight goals. Last season’s All-Tioga County Newcomer of the Year as a freshman, Anna Lee had four goals and five assists and the ’22 Offensive Player of the Year Tori Stratton had two goals and four assists during her junior year. Mann had two goals and classmate Addy Lenzo and seniors Madison Huzey and Colwell had a goal each to round out Williamson’s scoring.

The Warriors earned the No. 9 seed for the District 4 AA playoffs and fell to No. 8 seed Milton 7-2 to bring their season to an end.
