WILLIAMSPORT — North Penn-Liberty brothers Bryce and Brayden Pequignot both qualified for States, taking 2nd and 4th place in their weight classes at the North East Regional here Saturday.
Freshman Bryce (107) followed up his Friday night quarterfinal win by beating top seed Aristotel Bobotas from Montoursville 7-3, setting up a rematch with Montgomery’s Manny Stultzfus in the finals. Stultzfus topped Pequignot 6-1 in last week’s District 4 quarterfinals before the Mountie freshman ran off four straight wins to place 3rd.
Stoltzfus won 5-2 in the 107-pound final, giving Pequignot (33-6) the silver and a spot in the State Championships next week in Hershey.
Brayden won a pair of matches Friday night to advance to Saturday’s semifinals .. including a pin of District 2 champ Connor Novakowski from Wyoming Area in 3:32.
Pequignot then had three straight rematches from a week ago .. first falling by a 20-4 tech fall to D4 runner-up and Regional champ Bradley Wagner from Mifflinburg to drop into the consolation bracket. He then faced Milton’s Ty Locke and beat him 5-0 to advance to the 3rd place match and guarantee himself a spot at States. Pequignot pinned Locke last week to get into the consolation finals, where he fell to Hughesville junior Chase Shaner. This time, Shaner won 4-2 to give Brayden (32-10) 4th place.
Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday at Hershey’s Giant Center and continues through Saturday. Tickets to attend must be purchased online, HERE.
