NTL VOLLEYBALL: WELLSBORO DOWNS CANTON 3-1 IN SEASON OPENER (2024-08-27)

WELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets opened the 2024 volleyball season at home Tuesday and earned a 3-1 victory over the visiting Canton Lady Warriors. 

Wellsboro edged Canton 25-23 in the first set before Canton rallied in the second to win 25-23. The Hornets won the third set 25-20 then closed out the game with a 25-14 win in the fourth.

Seniors Paige Logsdon and Lexi Urena had nine kills each to lead the Lady Hornets while junior Taylor Main had nine assists and sophomore Madison Cruttenden and Urena both had 19 digs. Cruttenden and Urena also led the team from the serving line, scoring 16 points apiece with Urena recording eight aces.

Logsdon added five solo blocks and one assisted.

Sophomore Blake Eckart added five kills and a block and sophomore Ellie Largey recorded 12 points, eight assists and 14 digs.

Wellsboro (1-0) is scheduled to next host Sayre on Thursday.
