WELLSBORO — North Penn-Mansfield doubled up Wellsboro in the third quarter to open up a close game and held the Lady Hornets off for a 39-32 win in NTL girls basketball play here Friday.
Kameron Lightner led the Lady Tigers with 18 points, including all 5 in a defensive first quarter that saw NPM take a 5-2 lead into the second frame.
Chloe Brandenburg netted 7 points in the second quarter as Wellsboro cut the Tigers’ lead to one at 16-15 as the teams went into the locker rooms. The senior led the Lady Hornets with 12 points in the loss.
Lightner scored 9 third quarter points and Claire Dominick added 4 to lift the Lady Tigers to a 16-8 advantage and a 32-23 lead going into the final period. Wellsboro edged NPM 9-7 in the fourth but it wouldn’t be enough to catch up.
Paige Logsdon added 9 points for Wellsboro while Teagan Novinger had 6 points, Lily Wagner had 3 and Kate Bryant chipped in with 2 points in the loss.
Lightner added 7 rebounds and 3 steals for the Tigers and Maddie McNamara scored 8 points and added 6 rebounds and 5 steals while Dominick finished with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, Elaina Shaw had 3 points and 2 steals and Avalon Rew, Raegan Watkins and Keeha Rieppel each had 2 points in the win.
The Lady Tigers (4-5) are next scheduled to host Canton on Monday, while Wellsboro (3-3) also returns to action Monday, at Towanda.
