Northern Tier WEST Sports ReportTOWANDA — Wellsboro and Towanda battled for all four quarters here Monday night, but the Lady Hornets would come up just shy and fall to the Lady Knights 48-44.
Chloe Brandenburg finished with a game-high 23 points and hit three 3-pointers in the final frame but Towanda hit enough free throws down the stretch to hold Wellsboro off.
The Hornets opened the game by taking an 8-7 lead after one quarter before Towanda took the second 11-9 and led by one at the break .. 18-17. A 15-13 advantage in the third quarter left Towanda up 33-30 going into the final period.
Paige Logsdon and Teagan Novinger each scored 10 points in the loss for Wellsboro and Lily Wagner rounded out the Hornets’ scoring with 1 point.
Wellsboro drops to 3-4 on the season with their third straight loss. They’ll return to play on Wednesday at home against Wyalusing.
