WELLSBORO — The Hornets kept NTL large school leader Troy within striking distance for a half here Tuesday, but the Trojans pulled away in the second half and snapped Wellsboro’s three game winning streak, 71-54.
Colin Fletcher scored 5 first quarter points and Mitch Lechler added 4 points as the Hornets were edged 16-13 in the opening frame. Luke Rothermel scored 6 points in the second quarter and Lechler added 4 more as Wellsboro kept the Trojan lead at 5 with a 16-14 quarter in favor of Troy.
Fletcher and Lechler scored 5 points each in the third quarter but Troy extended their lead to double digits with a 19-14 advantage and Fletcher hit a pair of threes in the fourth while Troy scored 20 points to seal the win.
Fletcher led a trio of Hornets in double figures with 16 points while Lechler had 13 and Rothermel had 11 points. Marek Mascho had 6 points and Max Mascho and Jonathan Carl added 4 points each in the loss.
The Hornets even their season record at 6-6 with the loss. They’ll look to sweep their season series with Athens on the road Thursday.
