LIBERTY — The host Mounties used tough defense and balanced scoring to roll to a 75-54 win over Cowanesque Valley in NTL small school boys basketball action here Thursday.
North Penn-Liberty collected 12 steals in the win and blocked 8 CV shots as they jumped out to a 26-11 lead, fueled by an 11-0 run to end the first quarter of play.
Evan McTish scored 10 points in the opening frame and Luke Kreger and Adynn Wheeland added 6 points each. Kreger finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mounties while McTish had 13 points, 8 boards and blocked 4 shots.
Cowanesque Valley cut the lead by a point with an 11-10 second quarter and Liberty led 36-22 at the break.
Blake Oakley led a 23-10 Liberty third quarter with 8 points and finished with 9 in the game, adding 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists while Sudan Benner reached double figures with 10 points off the bench and Louis Mercantino scored 9 points and added 3 steals.
Wheeland finished with 8 points and 2 blocks, Conner Lewis had 5 points, Brody Grinnell had 4 points and Landon Mattern chipped in with 1 point.
For CV, Carsyn Kemp and Joshua Teague led with 13 points each while Ashtyn Burdick had 12 points and Parker Lee and Levi Stahli had 8 points each in the loss.
The Mounties (7-7) are scheduled for a non-league game at Benton on Monday, while CV (2-12) is home with Towanda on Wednesday.
