
WELLSBORO — North Penn-Liberty picked up their first team win of the season Thursday, topping Wellsboro 3-2 as the Mounties swept the doubles matches and Marissa Griess won at first singles.
Griess won her first set over Wellsboro’s Michaela Sedor 6-1 and was up 1-0 in the second set when the match was defaulted to Griess.
Mounties Addison Hill and Ellie Brion beat Wellsboro’s Gillian Hernandez and Kailey Zuchowski in the #1 doubles match, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1, and NPL’s Lillyn Tanner and Ella Weiskopff edged the Hornets’ duo of Kayleigh Harper and Leslie Bowers 6-4, 7-6 (7-2).
North Penn-Liberty dropped both the second and third singles matches, as Martina Bradford fell 4-6, 3-6 to Ana Perry, and Angelina Benitez was beaten 4-6, 2-6 by Towanda’s Hannah Nuss.
NPL stands at 1-2 on the season and will return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Bucktail.
Wellsboro falls to 0-3 with the loss and will host Jersey Shore Friday.
