NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES TAKE STEP CLOSER TO TITLE WITH ROUT OF WILLIAMSON (2025-02-05)

LIBERTY — North Penn-Liberty put four players in double figures and hit 11 threes on the night as they rolled over the visiting Williamson Warriors, 92-53 .. making the Mounties’ magic number ‘1’ as they seek an NTL small school title.

Evan McTish, Louis Mercantino and Luke Kreger each scored 8 first quarter points as the Mounties built a 29-11 lead. Kreger (6 pts.) and McTish (5) led a 16-10 Mountie second quarter and Liberty took a 45-21 lead into the break. 

McTish led the Mounties with 23 points with a pair of threes and collected a double-double with 11 rebounds, adding 2 blocked shots, while Mercantiono hit three 3-pointers and had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. 

Kreger had 17 points, 7 boards and 3 steals, while Adynn Wheeland had 11 points with 3 threes, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, while Brody Grinnell had 8 points, 4 assists and 4 steals, Blake Oakley had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and Sudan Benner had 7 points, with a 3-pointer and 2 steals.

Williamson was led in scoring by Jack Nolan with 22 points .. including 10 in the third quarter where the Warriors edged the Mounties 20-19. Maddox Hartman added 12 points, Braxton Watson had 7, Alex Watson had 6, Izaiah Croft had 3, Gabe Crance had 2 points and Jacob Brown had 1.

The Mounties, now 13-7 overall on the season, are 10-4 in the NTL with two league games remaining. Both Northeast Bradford and Sayre are 9-6 in the league and have just a game against each other left. Liberty needs to win one of their two remaining games to claim the NTL-II title. They’re at Canton on Friday, and beat the Warriors 63-48 in their first meeting .. and at CV on Monday, who NPL beat 75-54 previously.
