SAYRE — Cowanesque Valley took an early 5-point lead but the host Redskins used a 38-15 run that spanned the middle quarters to pull away for a 67-53 win in an NTL small school match-up here Wednesday night.
Levi Stahli scored 7 first quarter points to lead the Indians to a 14-9 lead after one before Sayre used a 19-4 second frame to take a 28-18 lead into the break. The Redskins outscored CV 19-11 in the third quarter to open it up and take a 47-29 lead into the final quarter.
Stahli would net 9 points in the fourth and finish with a team-high 17 to lead CV to a 24-20 final frame but it wouldn’t be enough to catch up to Sayre.
Carsyn Kemp and Ashtyn Burdick joined Stahli in double figures with 12 and 10 points, while Gavin Churchill added 6 points and Parker Lee and Jacob Johnson each chipped in with 3 points.
Cowanesque Valley drops to 3-17 on the season with the loss and returns to action Friday at Williamson before finishing their season on Monday at home with North Penn-Liberty.
