NTL WRESTLING: HALF DOZEN MOUNTIES HEADED FOR DISTRICTS, LED BY NORTH SECTION CHAMP BRYCE PEQUIGNOT (2025-02-15)

WELLSBORO — North Penn-Liberty’s Bryce Pequignot won a North Section title Saturday while five other Mounties punched their ticket to the District 4 Championships.

Pequignot (114) went 2-0 on the day to win the title and will be joined at Districts by runner-up Brayden Pequignot (127), third place finishers Riley Oakes (152), Bodhi Nickerson (107) and Braden Route (215) and fourth place winner Charles Aumick (121).

Bryce Pequignot got to the top of the podium with a 10-0 major decision in the 114-pound final over Andrew Kapec from Sullivan County. The sophomore opened his day with a 10-8 decision in the semis over Wyalusing’s Isaiah Harvey.

Brayden Pequignot earned a fall in the semifinals at 127 before losing by tech fall to Sullivan County’s Colton Wade in the finals to claim second place.

Nickerson won his opening match by major decision over Canton’s Levi Vermilya before getting tech called by eventual 107 pound champ Zander Wilson in the semis. The freshman got a pin in the consolation semis and then major decisioned Vermilaya again to place third.

Oakes opened his tourney with a 38 second pin before losing 4-3 to eventual 152 pound runner-up Rylee Sluyter in the semis. The senior then tech falled his way to third place, earning one in the consignment semis and in the 3rd-4th place match.

Braden Route got a pin in his first match before losing to eventual 215-pound champ Sawyer Robinson from Towanda in the semifinals. After a bye in the consolation semifinals, Route claimed bronze with an 8-5, sudden victory win.

Aumick will make the trip to Districts after winning his opening match with a 28 second pin, falling in the semifinals, getting a pin in the consolation semis and losing in the 3rd-4th place match.

Ryan Roupp (172) went 2-2 to claim fifth place and would be chosen to attend Districts if one of the top-4 can’t, while Terrell Rinebold (145) went 1-2 and Bentley Chilson (133), Brady Bower (139) and Caden Prisbrey (285) all went 0-2 on the day.

The Mounties finished in fourth place in the team standings with 114 points, behind champs Towanda (236.5), Wyalusing (10) and Williamson (132). 

Liberty also received a number of accolades from the regular season, including the team being recognized with the Sportsmanship Award, Brayden Pequignot receiving the individual Sportsmanship Award and Riley Oakes being named honorable mention for Sportsmanship.
