THE SPORTS REPORTS: HORSEHEADS' OWEN, ATHENS' RENNINGER NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2025-02-21)

Horseheads senior Coleton Owen was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Section IV, Division I championships, and Athens senior Emma Renninger won a District 4 wrestling title as the third seed. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm  Regional "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Feb. 15.

HORSEHEADS' OWEN NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS' "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"

Owen had quite a day at the Division I championships, winning a sectional championship, qualifying for states, and leading Horseheads to a fifth straight sectional title.

He beat Quentin Getzin of Ithaca, 5-3, in the finals. Getzin was a sectional champion last year and a state qualifier.

Owen opened with a 16-0 technical fall win over Corning's Patrick Akerelrea in the quarterfinals, and beat Binghamton's Jaqwel Vaughn, 8-4, in the semifinals.

ATHENS' RENNINGER NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS' "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"

Renninger opened with an 80-second fall in the quarterfinals of the District 4 Championships, then beat seventh-seeded Darrell Reyes-Ramirez in a 47-second pin in the semifinals

In the 112-pound finale, Renninger beat top-seeded Arizona Moore of Hughesville, 8-7.
