NTL SOFTBALL: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY LADY MOUNTIES TOP WELLSBORO (2025-03-19)

MANSFIELD — North Penn-Liberty had 10 base hits and pitchers Haley Litzelman and Elyna Booth combined for 15 strikeouts as the Lady Mounties beat visiting Wellsboro 9-3 in an NTL softball match-up here Wednesday.

Litzelman started in the circle for Liberty and went four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five Wellsboro hits and a walk with six strikeouts. 

The junior helped her own cause in the first inning, doubling home Maddie Smith and Addie Smith, who had singled and walked. After stealing 3rd, Litzelman came in on a bunt single by Claire Dominick and the Lady Mounties took an early 3-0 lead. 

Liberty added a run in the 2nd inning when Maddie Smith tripled and Addie Smith sacrificed her in for a 4-0 lead. 

In the third, Dominick reached base on an error and Gabby Parsons singled before Elaina Shaw singled and scored Dominick and would later score on a passed ball to give the Mounties a 6-0 lead.

Wellsboro got on the board in the top of the 4th when Paige Logsdon led off the inning with a triple and Teagan Novinger singled her home. A bunt single from LeAnna Fuentes advanced courtesy runner Hannah Taylor and both moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Harleigh Cleveland. Taylor and Fuentes would both score to cut the Liberty lead to 6-3.

The Mounties got one run back in the bottom of the 4th as Litzelman sacrificed Maddie Smith home with a fly ball after Smith had singled.

Liberty added their final two runs in the 5th when Shaw singled and Kaylee Graham walked and Maddie McNamara singled to bring them both in to provide the 9-3 final. 

Booth relieved Litzelman in the 5th and went the final three innings, giving up two hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. 

Maddie Smith finished with three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs, while Shaw had two hits, an RBI and scored twice.

Litzelman had a double, three RBI and a run scored and Dominick and Addie Smith each had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. McNamara had a hit and two RBI and Gabby Parsons had a hit to round out Liberty’s offensive attack. 

For Wellsboro, Logsdon had two hits, with a triple, and scored a run, Novinger had a hit and an RBI, Fuentes had a hit and scored, Madelynn Losinger and Delaney Morral each had a base hit and Taylor scored a run. 

Ady Frantz threw all six innings for the Lady Hornets, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 10 base hits and five walks with six strikeouts. 

North Penn-Liberty (2-0) is scheduled to return to play Saturday at Hughesville while Wellsboro (0-1) visits Troy on Friday.
