NTL BASEBALL: HORNETS DROP OPENER AT TROY (2025-03-19)

TROY — Wellsboro took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the 3rd inning in their season opener at Troy Wednesday, but a pair of big innings by the Trojans lifted them to a 12-2 win over the Hornets.

After a scoreless first inning, Wellsboro plated a run when Gabe Sprouse singled, reached 3rd after both Alec Magli and Cameron Owlett were hit by pitches and Gabe Cuneo walked to score Sprouse. 

Troy answered in the bottom of the 3rd with four runs and added six more in the 4th for a 10-1 lead. 

Wellsboro got one run back in the top of the 5th as Coen Tennis doubled, courtesy runner Syler Pietrzyk moved to 3rd on a Sprouse sac fly and scored on an error off the bat of Ryder Bowen. 

Troy scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th to end the game early at 12-2.

Sprouse had two hits and scored a run while Tennis and Cameron Owlett each had a hit and Cuneo had an RBI.

Marek Mascho took the loss for Wellsboro, throwing two and two-third innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks. Dylan Copp went two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks and Dustin Owlett threw two-thirds of an inning and gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits with one strikeout.

Wellsboro (0-1) is scheduled to return to action Thursday at North Penn-Mansfield.
