NTL BASEBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD 10-RUNS WELLSBORO (2025-03-20)

MANSFIELD — After falling behind 2-0 to the visiting Hornets Thursday, North Penn-Mansfield scored 12 unanswered runs and topped Wellsboro 12-2 in five innings for their second straight win to start the season. 

Alex Davis started and earned the win for the Tigers, going four innings and allowing two runs (0 earned) on one hit and two walks with four strikeouts. Cooper Shaw threw a perfect fifth inning, striking out one.

Wellsboro scored in the first inning when Marek Mascho reached base on a dropped third strike and advanced around the bases and scored on passed balls. The Hornets added a run in the second after Ryder Bowen walked and also got to third on passed balls, eventually scoring on a ground out by Alec Magli. 

Down 2-0, the Tigers got their bats going and scored three runs in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and led 8-2 going into the bottom of the fifth.

After Jason Harer doubled and Noah Musser singled, Davis walked to load the bases. Andy Hermansen cleared them with a hard-hit ball that got by the right fielder and the Tigers led 11-2. Riley Oakes delivered a sacrifice fly to score Hermansen from third and Mansfield ended the game early with the 10-run win.

Shaw and Hermansen each had a pair of base hits with Shaw’s including a double, an RBI and two runs scored while Hermansen had four RBI total and scored the game-ending run.

Easton Pequignot and Liam Shaut each had a hit, an RBI and a run scored, while Harer had a double and two runs scored, Muster had a hit, two RBI and a run scored, Davis had an RBI and scored twice, Oakes had an RBI and Cameron Caldwell scored two runs.

Bowen had Wellsboro’s lone base hit and scored a run while Marek Mascho scored and Magli had an RBI.

Max Mascho started for the Hornets and threw three innings, allowing five runs (2 earned) on two hits and three walks with one strikeout. Dustin Owlett went two-thirds of an inning and gave up three earned runs on two hits and three walks and Gabe Cuneo went one inning and allowed four runs (2 earned) on two hits and a walk with one K.

North Penn-Mansfield (2-0) is at Towanda on Tuesday while Wellsboro (0-2) hosts Hughesville on Saturday.
