
WELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets fell behind early and couldn’t catch up to the visiting Athens Lady Wildcats, falling for the third straight game to start their season, 10-4.
Wellsboro matched Athens’ one-run first inning but gave up eight unanswered runs over the next four innings to go down 9-1 going into the bottom of the sixth.
Teagan Novinger led off the sixth with a solo home run and Delaney Morral singled to drive in LeAnna Fuentes, who had walked, to cut the Athens lead to 9-3.
Both teams scored a run in the seventh to provide the 10-4 final.
Novinger had a pair of hits, with the homer, and added three RBI and a run scored, while Paige Logsdon had three hits, with a double, Morral had a hit and an RBI, Madelynn Losinger had a hit and Rylee Coolidge scored twice.
Ady Frantz started in the circle and took the loss, going five innings and allowing nine runs (8 earned) on 10 hits and seven walks with six strikeouts. Logsdon threw the last two innings and allowed one unearned run on a hit with two walks and a strikeout.
Wellsboro (0-3) is scheduled to return to action Thursday when they host Towanda.
