
WELLSBORO — Marek Mascho homered for the second straight game, but Wellsboro surrendered a 10-run fourth inning to Athens and fell 16-10 to the Wildcats here Tuesday.
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first on Mascho’s two-run home run that plated Gabe Sprouse, who had walked, and gave Wellsboro a 2-0 lead after an inning of play.
Athens scored four runs in the top of the second and added a run in the top of the third to make it 5-2.
Mascho reached on a one-out single in the bottom of the second and Ryder Bowen was hit by a pitch before Alec Magli scored them both with a single and cut Athens’ lead to one .. 5-4.
The Wildcats exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning to open the game up, and after Wellsboro scored four runs in the bottom half of the fourth and a scoreless fifth inning, the Wildcats scored their final run in the sixth and held the Hornets to two runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early.
Marek Mascho finished with three base hits, including a home run and a double, and had two RBI and three runs scored. Magli had a hit, a run scored and two RBI while Griffin Morral had a hit, an RBI and scored once and Sprouse had a hit an a run scored.
Gabe Cuneo and Cam Owlett each had an RBI and scored a run and Bowen scored twice.
Max Mascho started on the mound for Wellsboro and went three innings, allowing seven runs (6 earned) on seven hits and five walks with three strikeouts.
Dustin Owlett failed to record an out and allowed four runs (3 earned) on a hit and two walks, Dylan Copp went a third of an inning and gave up four earned runs on two hits and two walks, Marek Mascho went one and two-third innings and surrendered two hits and three walks with a strikeout and Cuneo threw an inning and allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk with two K’s.
Wellsboro (0-4) is next scheduled to host Towanda on Thursday.
