
WESTFIELD — Cowanesque Valley used a nine run fifth inning to end their non-league baseball match-up with Oswayo Valley early here Thursday, beating the Green Wave 18-7.
Oswayo Valley went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning before CV answered with three runs in the bottom half to keep it tied. The Gren Wave added three more runs in the top of the second and the Indians again answered, plating three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-6.
A one run fourth for OV led to three more Cowanesque Valley runs in the bottom four and the Indians put the game away in the fifth inning with a nine run outburst to provide the final.
Levi Stahli finished with two base hits, two RBI and three runs scored while Loagan Stickler homered and had two RBI and scored three runs.
Dave Hess (R) and Lucas Hamilton (3 RBI, 4 R) each doubled while Danny Smith (2 RBI, R) and William Kies (RBI, R) each had a base hit and Hunter Simonds, Brody Bruce and Logan Huntington each scored a run.
Gavin Churchill started on the mound for CV and went an inning and a third, allowing five runs (3 earned) on a hit and two walks, while Hess earned the win by going three and two-third innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
The Indians (6-1) are scheduled to visit Sullivan County for an 11 a.m. game on Saturday.
