Northern Tier WEST Sports Report
WELLSBORO — North Penn-Liberty’s Elyna Booth threw a one-hitter and the Lady Mounties overcame a slow start and mercy-ruled the host Lady Hornets 11-0 in five innings here Thursday.

Booth issued six walks and struck out 10 Wellsboro batters across her five innings of work.

The Mounties took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Maddie Smith reached base after being hit by a pitch, stole second and third base and came home on an Addie Smith single.

Booth and Addie Smith both finished with a pair of base hits in the game, with Smith adding an RBI and a run scored.

With Liberty still up 1-0 in the fourth inning, Kameron Lightner, Kaylee Graham and Booth all walked to load the bases with two outs. Maddie Smith singled to score Lightner and Addie Smith cleared the bases with a fly ball to left field that was mishandled by the Hornets and the Mounties led 5-0 going into the fifth.

There, Liberty used singles by Graham, Maddie McNamara and Booth, a walk by Addie Smith, three Hornet errors off the bats of Claire Dominick, Lightner and Haley Litzelman and three Wellsboro passed balls to plate six runs and end the game early, 11-0.

Graham and Maddie Smith each finished with a hit, an RBI and two runs scored, while McNamara had a hit and a run scored, Lightner had an RBI and scored twice and Dominick scored once.

Kaylee Frazier had Wellsboro’s lone hit in the game while Ady Frantz took the loss, going all five innings and giving up 11 runs (2 earned) on seven hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts.

The Hornets (3-7) are scheduled to visit Cowanesque Valley on Friday, while North Penn-Liberty (8-1) is scheduled to visit Sayre, also on Friday.
