TOWANDA — Sophomore Max Mascho threw a one-hit shutout to lift Wellsboro to a 1-0 win over Towanda in NTL baseball action here Thursday.
The game was scoreless until the top of the 6th inning when Hornets’ freshman Gabe Cuneo led off the inning with a base hit, then stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly from freshman Griffin Morral drove in Cuneo and the Hornets got the only run they’d need.
Mascho threw all seven innings for Wellsboro, allowing a hit while walking one and striking out 11.
Marek Mascho finished with three base hits in the win, while Coen Tennis, Ryder Bowen and Morral each had two and Max Mascho, Cuneo and Alec Magli had one hit each.
Wellsboro pulls within one game of .500 for the year (6-7, 5-5 NTL Large School Division) with the win. They’re scheduled to return to action Saturday at South Williamsport.
