A number of Tioga County, PA athletes are helping the Elmira-based Soaring Capital Soccer Club’s ’08-’09 girls’ Premier Team Impact to a successful season, including a 4-0 Memorial Day weekend to claim the U17 division title at the Gettysburg Blue/Gray Cup.
Members of the team include North Penn-Mansfield’s Brooke Wilcox, Wellsboro’s Jadyn Dunlap, Kate Bryant and Megan Newruck, Williamson’s Anna Lee, Maddie Bailey and Addy Lanzo and girls from Corning, Horseheads, Hornell, Trumansburg and Elmira. North Penn-Mansfield Head Coach Maryann Wilcox is a coach for the team.
The club went 4-0 to win the Gettysburg tourney, outscoring their opponents 19-to-2. Dunlap served as the team’s goalie, recording shutouts in the semis and in the final.
Wilcox led the club offensively, scoring five goals with four assists .. including three game-winning scores, while Bailey recorded three goals and five assists in the tournament and Williamson teammate Lee had three goals.
The Impact compete in the New York State Thruway League and have a 2-2-1 record so far this season, and previously attended the Elite Soccer Mania College Showcase in Baltimore at the end of March, going 3-1 and outscoring their opponents 10-2. Dunlap recorded three shutouts in goal and had a punt for an assist and Wilcox scored two goals and had four helpers on the weekend.
The team has an upcoming league game with divisional-leader Lakefront (Webster, NY) at Notre Dame High School on June 8th and they’ll travel to the Mad Dog Mania College Showcase in Saratoga Springs on June 14th and 15th, where over 130 college scouts are expected to be in attendance.
