Northern Tier West Sports Report
WELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets shut out North Penn-Mansfield 3-0 Thursday to earn their second straight sweep to start the season.

"I’m really proud of the team’s effort tonight," head coach Michael Reese said. "We controlled the middle of the field well and created consistent pressure, which led to 13 shots on goal. Ella, Luna and Haylie each had great finishes, but what stood out most was how everyone worked together to set up those chances and keep the tempo of the game in our favor. I’m also pleased with our defensive effort, earning our second consecutive shutout, which shows the focus and determination this group is playing with."

After 23 minutes of scoreless play junior Ella Boyce took a pass from senior Lily Wagner and sent it past the North Penn-Mansfield keeper, putting Wellsboro up 1-0.

Wellsboro kept their 1-0 lead until the midway point of the 2nd half when sophomore Luna Moyer scored to increase the lead to 2-0. Freshman Haylie Smith increased the lead to 3-0 off a pass from Boyce just over four minutes later.

The Lady Hornets out shot NP-Mansfield 13-4 and had a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Jadyn Dunlap earned her second straight shut out by saving all four Mansfield shots.

Wellsboro (2-0, 2-0 NTL) hosts Port Allegany Saturday morning.
