NTL BOYS SOCCER: WELLSBORO EDGES TROY IN DOUBLE OVERTIME (2025-09-11)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
WELLSBORO — It took all of regulation and nearly two full overtime periods but Wellsboro’s Jonathan Carl connected on his third goal of the game with just over a minute left to lift the Hornets to a 3-2 win over winless Troy here Thursday.

The visiting Trojans opened the game’s scoring at the 26:44 mark of the first half and held the 1-0 lead until Carl tied it up with a goal off a Jacoby Strang assist with three minutes left before the break.

Troy retook the lead less than eight minutes into the second half and Carl again tied it up, finding the net midway through the frame.

The teams played the rest of regulation and the first 18 and a half minutes of extra time without scoring before Carl completed his hat trick with 1:14 remaining to give the Hornets the win.

Wellsboro had a 20-3 advantage in shots-on-goal and 14 corner kicks to Troy’s one.

Keeper Camden Tom recorded one save in net for Wellsboro.

“We had 20 shots and 14 corner kicks but struggled to get the ball across the goal line,” said Wellsboro Head Coach Todd Fitch, “I’m proud of the grit and resilience the boys showed .. coming from behind twice and pressing to get the game winner in the final minutes of double overtime.”

The Hornets (6-2) return to action Saturday with a visit to Towanda.
