NTL FOOTBALL: HORNETS ROLL TO 33-12 WIN OVER TOWANDA (2025-09-12)

WELLSBORO — The Wellsboro Hornets racked up nearly 400 yards of offense and overcame nine penalties and a pair of turnovers to beat the visiting Towanda Black Knights, 33-12.

Sophomore quarterback Griffin Morral threw for 190 yards and a pair of scores and had 112 yards and another TD on the ground as the Hornets topped 200 yards rushing as a team in the win. 

Senior Marek Mascho had 15 carries for 88 yards and a score and sophomore Reed Richardson had 10 yards and a TD on two carries. 

Sophomore Kody Enck had four catches for 133 yards and a touchdown while junior Max Mascho had a 50-yard TD catch-and-run.

Richardson opened the game’s scoring, finishing off a nine-play drive with an 8-yard TD run with 6:10 remaining in the first quarter to make it 6-0.

A minute and a half later Max Mascho scored on a pass from Morral at midfield and after senior Finn Matthews’ extra-point kick was good, Wellsboro led 13-0.

The Black Knights scored the next 9 points .. on a 7-yard run with 5:55 left in the second quarter and a 27-yard field goal with just over four minutes left until the break.

Marek Mascho got the Wellsboro lead back to double-digits with his 11-yard score with under two minutes remaining and the Hornets took a 19-9 lead into the locker rooms. 

The third quarter saw just a Towanda field goal .. again from 27 yards out .. and the Hornets lead was 19-12 as they headed to the final frame. 

Morral found Enck for a 29-yard TD and Marek Mascho for the 2-point conversion less than two minutes into the fourth and capped the game’s scoring with a 21-yard run with 3:13 remaining to provide the final. 

The Hornet ‘D’ gave up 11 first downs and 202 total yards to Towanda .. 161 rushing and 41 through the air .. and forced six punts. Marek Mascho had seven tackles while sophomore Jorden Hines had six and senior Hayden Stevens and senior Dylan Copp had five stops each and Stevens had Wellsboro’s lone sack in the win. 

Wellsboro, now 2-2 on the season, hits the road next Friday when they visit 2-2 Cowanesque Valley.
