Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — The Laurel Health ‘Athletes of the Week’ are Wellsboro volleyball player Maddy Cruttenden and North Penn-Liberty soccer goalie Deakon Valentine.
Cruttenden, the Lady Hornets’ junior libero, helped Wellsboro to a 2-1 week, with their loss coming to 4A Williamsport in five sets.
In a 3-2 win over North Penn-Liberty, Cruttenden had 21 digs, 50 serves received and five service points, then collected 15 points with three aces, 31 serves received and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Athens. In the Williamsport loss, Cruttenden had 32 digs, five points with three aces, two assists and 44 serves received.
Senior keeper Valentine helped the Mounties to a 2-0-1 week, getting the clean sheet with eight saves in a 5-0 win over Towanda, making four saves in Liberty’s 0-0 draw with Athens and in a 2-1 win over NEB, making six saves and scoring the eventual game-winning goal with a punted goal kick.
