Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets hosted 3A Jersey Shore on Saturday and used a pair of second half goals to beat the Lady Bulldogs, 3-1.
Ella Boyce opened the game’s scoring with a goal .. assisted on by a Luna Moyer goal kick .. less than six minutes in before Jersey Shore tied it up with a score with eight and a half minutes left before the break.
Moyer took an assist from Haylie Smith and scored midway through the second half and Smith completed the game’s scoring with a goal off a Megan Newruck assist with eight and a half minutes remaining.
Keeper Carly Blackwell recorded nine saves in goal for Wellsboro in the win.
Wellsboro, now 9-4 on the season with five games remaining, guarantees themselves a playoff berth with the win. They’re scheduled to host Athens on Tuesday. The Hornets opened their season with a 2-0 win over the Lady Wildcats.
